Questions about our hotels

Which hotels do your tours stay in?

Each tour names its houses on its page, night by night, and every one of them has a page here: city hotels in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Sapporo, and ryokan with their own onsen in the countryside, the lake country and the mountains.

What is a ryokan?

A ryokan is a Japanese inn: tatami rooms, yukata, an onsen (hot-spring bath) on its own spring, and a kaiseki dinner served course by course. The best of them keep only a few rooms, and several of ours have an open-air onsen in every room.

Which rooms do you book?

On The Classic Cherry Blossom Tour of Japan, The Cherry Blossom Tour of Hokkaido and The Summer Tour of Hokkaido, every room is from the property's upper categories or a suite, never the entry room. Each hotel's page says which tours carry it.

Can you book a hotel that none of your tours uses?

Yes. The Custom Tour of Japan is created around your party alone, on your dates, and any house on this page can be part of it. If you would rather travel independently, the Expert Japan Itinerary plans every day for you.

The house, chosen for you.

Every night of our tours is at a house on this page. The Custom Tour of Japan can take you to any of them, on your dates, and the Expert Japan Itinerary plans the days if you would rather travel independently.
