The rooms
The 160 rooms and suites are made of carefully chosen natural materials worked by Kyoto artisans, with deep tubs fashioned of stone. They look over the city, over the garden or towards Nijo Castle, from the Deluxe rooms of 43 square metres to the Nijo Suite and the Presidential Suite of 213 square metres. The Onsen Suites, over the garden, carry an outdoor onsen of their own on the hotel's spring.

The onsen
The spring rises from some 1,000 metres directly beneath the hotel, a sodium and calcium chloride water, and fills the thermal spa, the private onsen and the outdoor onsen of the Onsen Suites. The spa offers treatments beside it, and there is a gym.

Dining
Every dining room is set round the garden: a Kyoto-French restaurant whose stocks are made with the city's soft water; an Italian dining room with grills and pizza from its ovens; a garden bar lit softly at evening; and a pavilion of Japanese cypress, a faithful reconstruction of part of the old residence, kept for tea ceremonies and private dinners.

Kyoto
The site beside Nijo Castle was the Kyoto home of the head of a great merchant family for some two and a half centuries, and its business was steered from here into the Meiji era. The hotel opened in 2020 behind the restored Kajiimiya Gate, around a courtyard garden of 1,300 square metres that recreates the garden of the old residence.
Nijo Castle and its Ninomaru Palace stand across the street, and the park of the Kyoto Imperial Palace is a short ride north.
