Hakuchoro Sanraku
Hakuchoro Sanraku, in full Kanazawa Hakuchoro Hotel Sanraku, is a hotel in the centre of Kanazawa, beside Kenroku-en garden and the castle park, with its own natural hot spring, and the Kanazawa night of The Autumn Leaves Tour of Japan.

Why stay at Hakuchoro Sanraku
Kenroku-en at the door
One of Japan's three great gardens and the castle park beside it are a short walk away.
A Taisho interior
Stained glass, Kutani porcelain lamps and dark wood give the house the look of the 1920s.
An onsen in the city
The hotel's baths are fed by its own natural hot spring, a rare thing in a city centre.
the setting
A castle town's garden, two minutes from the door.
Kanazawa was the castle town of the Maeda lords, and it was never bombed: its samurai lanes, teahouse quarters and the great garden of Kenroku-en came through the twentieth century whole. The hotel stands at the centre of all of it, between the castle park and the old streets of Korinbo.
At the door: Kenroku-en and the castle park on one side; the teahouse quarter of Higashi Chaya and the Omicho market a short drive on the other.

the rooms
The rooms and suites
The rooms take their look from the Taisho era: patterned carpets, lacquer-dark furniture, stained-glass panels and lamps of Kutani porcelain, the region's own enamelled ware. The suites add a sitting room in the same manner.
to unwind
The onsen
The hotel draws its water from its own natural hot spring, and its baths are a place to end a day in Kanazawa after the garden and the market: indoor pools by tall windows, the spring water running over stone.

Dining
Kanazawa is a city of the Sea of Japan's fish, and on our tours the evening is at a kappo counter in the teahouse quarter, the chef cooking blackthroat seaperch in front of you before the walk back to the onsen.
