The rooms

The rooms and suites are generous, in a design that joins the minimal to the traditional, each with an engawa looking onto a garden of stones and out to the lake or the mountain. The bathrooms are in stone, with a deep Japanese tub and a separate shower, and in the suites the view runs from the outdoor living space to the tub.

The onsen and the spa

The onsen is fed from Nikko Yumoto, a spring known for more than 1,200 years, a sulphur water that rises at 78.6 degrees and turns milky white in the air. There is an indoor onsen with a view of the garden, outdoor onsen for guests of the spa, a sauna scented with cypress, and rooms for treatments.
