The rooms
There are eighteen rooms in seven types, Japanese rooms on tatami, some with a living room, and maisonettes on two levels, most with twin beds. Every room has an open-air onsen of free-flowing spring water, shaped differently in each, and an in-room bar; some open onto a balcony over the forest.

The onsen and the spa
The spring is a simple alkaline water, soft on the skin, and it runs to the open-air onsen in every room and to the ryokan's large onsen with its view. The spa sits in the green of the mountains, for treatments after the water.

Dining
Dinner is a kaiseki of what the Sea of Japan and the country around Nagato and Senzaki give, cooked by local methods and served on Hagi ware, in a dining room and at a counter over the river, with a bar for the evening.

Nagato Yumoto is an onsen town in the mountains of Yamaguchi, its spring bathed in for some six hundred years. The ryokan stands on the bank of the Otozure River, with the sound of the river and the birds in the forest around it.
A riverside walk follows the Otozure through the onsen town of Nagato Yumoto, and the Sea of Japan coast at Nagato and Senzaki is a short drive away.
