the room
The rooms
The 81 rooms and suites run from 42 to 238 square metres, in simple lines and earthy tones with touches of Japanese craft. Many open onto a balcony over the inner courtyard, the city or Toyokuni Shrine; the Premier Suites lead out to a private Japanese garden of their own, and the largest suites add a separate living room.

The pool and the spa
The spa is finished in wood and stone, with four treatment suites, a bathhouse, sauna and steam room, an indoor pool, a warm pool for watsu, and a studio for yoga and meditation. An alchemy bar blends scrubs from ingredients chosen for each of the twenty-four seasons.
the table
Dining
The main dining room cooks to the twenty-four seasons with produce from Kyoto growers, and a café serves coffee and small sweets. A cocktail bar pours drinks made with ingredients of the region, and a sushi counter completes the hotel's tables.
the setting
Kyoto
The hotel stands in the southern part of Higashiyama, across the street from Toyokuni Shrine and its garden, among temples and the workshops and tea shops of the old quarter. Inside, the design draws on The Tale of Genji and the old tales of the moon rabbit, around a central courtyard planted as a garden.
Toyokuni Shrine stands opposite, Sanjusangen-do and the Kyoto National Museum are a walk away, and Kiyomizu-dera and Gion are a short drive.
