Why stay at Mori no Ryotei Biei

  1. An onsen to every room

Every room carries an open-air onsen of its own, the forest close around it.

  2. Low wooden wings

Covered corridors join the buildings, which follow the hillside among the trees.

  3. The Blue Pond nearby

The pond of milky blue water and the patchwork hills of Biei are a short drive.

the setting

Seventeen rooms in a forest of birch and spruce.

Shirogane is a small onsen settlement on the slopes of the Tokachi range, reached through an avenue of white birch. The ryokan stands among Ezo spruce and Todo fir, its wings linked by covered corridors and its windows full of the forest.

At the door: the birch forest, the Shirogane Blue Pond a few minutes down the road, and the waterfall of Shirahige beside it.

the rooms

The rooms and suites

The rooms are Japanese and Western together, tatami and low beds under sloping wooden ceilings, each with a long window onto the forest and an open-air onsen of its own.

On The Summer Tour of Hokkaido every room is from the ryokan's upper categories or a suite, never the entry room.

to unwind

The onsen

Shirogane's water rises in the volcanic hills above, and the ryokan brings it to every room's onsen and to its shared baths, in wood and stone under the trees.

the table

Dining

Dinner is a kaiseki of central Hokkaido, served one dish at a time in the ryokan's dining rooms, with the vegetables of the Biei farms; on our tours both evenings are included.
