Konansou
Konansou is a ryokan of fifty rooms on the shore of the lake at Funatsu, with Mount Fuji across the water, rooms turned either to the mountain or to the lake, and an onsen that looks out to both.

The rooms
There are fifty rooms, forty-three Japanese rooms on tatami and seven Japanese and Western rooms with beds, some on the Mount Fuji side and some on the lake. Thirteen carry an open-air onsen of their own, the largest of them a room of 102 square metres facing the mountain; the Tamayura rooms on the lake side look across the water to the hills, with a bath at the window.

The onsen
The ryokan's two large onsen each open onto an open-air pool, with Mount Fuji in view across the lake; three private onsen can be reserved, and the roof keeps a foot bath of spring water over the lake, with telescopes for the mountain. A salon offers treatments and reflexology.

Dining
Dinner is a kaiseki course from the aperitif to the dessert, served in the room for up to four guests, or in a private dining room. On Definitive Japan both evenings' dinners are at the ryokan.
the setting
Lake Kawaguchiko
Funatsu is the lakeside quarter of Kawaguchiko, and the ryokan stands at the water's edge, eight storeys facing the lake and Mount Fuji beyond it. A tea lounge opens onto a terrace over the lake, and on the roof a foot bath of spring water looks over the lake, the mountains and Mount Fuji.
The lake begins at the door, and the lakeside town of Kawaguchiko is a short walk along the shore.
