The onsen and the spa

The shared onsen draws a sodium bicarbonate and sulphate spring, its indoor pool lit by tall windows over Lake Toya, the islands and Mount Yotei far off, and its open-air pool set among tall trees; an aroma sauna and a treatment spa sit beside it.

Dining

The resort keeps three dining rooms: a French restaurant of Hokkaido seafood and mountain produce, a Japanese room of modern kaiseki of the region, and a teppanyaki counter of nine seats; on our tours dinner is French.

the setting

Lake Toya

The resort stands on a broad hill above the eastern shore of Lake Toya, surrounded by its own large gardens, with the islands of Nakajima on the water below. Its lobby is composed of water, earth and wood, and artworks of Ainu motifs hang through the halls.

The resort's gardens fall away towards the lakeshore of Sobetsu, with Mount Usu and the red dome of Showa-Shinzan close by.
