Every room looks to the forest. The deluxe twins run to 69 square metres with a deck of 15, a living room and an indoor onsen of their own; the open-air onsen twins add an onsen on a deck; the double rooms are dressed with a canopy bed.

The onsen and the spa
The spring is a gentle simple water, brought to an open-air onsen in the air off Lake Onuma and to two private onsen taken by reservation, one with a fall of water; a sauna and a treatment spa of facials, aromatherapy and massage sit beside them.

Dining
Dinner is French, cooked to the idea of Onuma 50 Miles Slow Food from the season within eighty kilometres of the lake, or a lighter French and Japanese course eaten with chopsticks, in a dining room of white walls, Ainu motifs and a fireplace, the lake and the forest at the windows; on our tours dinner each evening is French.

Onuma
Onuma is a lake of small wooded islands made when part of Komagatake fell away and dammed the streams below, the broken summit still standing over the water. Epuy stands near the lake in the foothills of the volcano, its two wings designed around herbs and berries, its interiors chic and calm, and its garden planted with the flowers and greenery of the national park.
The botanical garden surrounds the resort, the island walks and boats of Lake Onuma are a few minutes away, and old Hakodate is half an hour by car.
