A samurai avenue of black fences, and the trees that shade it.
The samurai lived to the north of the town, the merchants to the south, and the line between them is still there. On Bukeyashiki-dori the houses stand behind their gates and gardens, several open to visitors and some still lived in by the families who built them, and the town's craftsmen still work the bark of the mountain cherry into tea caddies and boxes, a craft called kabazaiku.
