Resort, Ise-Shima
Amanemu
Amanemu is a resort in the forested hills of Ise-Shima National Park in Mie, above Ago Bay, its suites and villas built in the manner of the old minka farmhouses, each with an onsen of its own.
Stay at Amanemu on a Custom Tour of Japan, created around your party alone, on the dates you choose.
the room
The rooms
The suites take their form from the minka, each bedroom and living room one long space, with a generous terrace and an onsen of its own, looking over the gardens or out to Ago Bay. The villas have two bedrooms and wide living space indoors and out; one adds a pavilion of onsen fed by the hot spring, indoors and in the open air, and others a courtyard or a private garden over the bay.
to unwind
The onsen and the spa
The spa covers 2,000 square metres among cedars on the hillside, in wood with sliding doors and stone paths, and its shared onsen look out over the landscape, with rooms for massage and treatments beside them. The onsen of each suite and villa adds one of the guest's own.
the table
Dining
The restaurant looks across the forest to the bay below, beneath a barrel-vaulted ceiling of wood, and its cooking is Japanese, built on the produce of Ise-Shima: Matsusaka wagyu, with spiny lobster and abalone from Ago Bay. The lounge sits beside the swimming pool, with a lantern-lit terrace where the sun sets into the sea and cocktails made with the fruits and herbs of the region.
the setting
Ise-Shima
Ise-Shima is the peninsula of Mie that is home to Ise Grand Shrine, and its coast breaks into the inlets and islands of Ago Bay. The resort stands on a forested hill above the bay, in timber pavilions made after the minka farmhouse, so that its dining room and terraces look over the trees to the water.
Forest runs down to the inlets of Ago Bay, where the pearl farmers and ama divers of the coast still work, and Ise Grand Shrine stands on the same peninsula.
