Jozankei's spring is a clear sodium chloride water with a faint taste of salt that keeps its warmth long after the onsen. The resort brings it to a broad indoor onsen with tall windows on the forest and an open-air onsen among the trees, with a Finnish sauna, a stone spa and treatment rooms besides.

Jozankei lies in a forested gorge near the head of the Toyohira River, inside the city limits of Sapporo and the Shikotsu-Toya National Park, its springs rising along the riverbed. The resort is built on the idea of walking in and feeling the forest, its interiors full of small details that tell the tales of the woods.
A riverside promenade leads from the resort to the red Futami Suspension Bridge over the gorge, and the lake of Hoheikyo lies further up the valley.
