The rooms
The rooms run from Japanese rooms in tatami, through rooms with an open-air onsen, to eight further rooms, some with a bath of cypress or of stone, a sauna or a balcony, then four detached cottages and three villas.
The newest villa, of 254 square metres, has a dining room of twenty-five tatami, a bedroom, a veranda, a tea room and a study, with a dry sauna and a stone onsen over a garden of rock and gravel.

The onsen and the spa
The ryokan's water is an abundant hot spring, weakly alkaline, and it fills the open-air onsen of the rooms that carry one. The spa offers facials and body treatments worked by hand, with shiatsu and meridian therapy.

Dining
Dinner is kaiseki, the menu changing with the month and the season, served in the Western-style villa of the early Showa years with the hills of Hakone outside; a vegetarian kaiseki is offered too. On the floor above, in the same building, a counter of eight seats serves sushi.

Gora lies high on the slopes of Hakone, and the ryokan keeps its own grounds there, the site of the imperial villa, among the trees and the mountains, its buildings joining the old materials of Japan to a modern line.
