the room

The rooms

The rooms run from tatami rooms looking onto the garden, some with a kotatsu room beside, to Western rooms turned to Mount Fuji with a daybed at the window. The Sanri rooms, the newest of them opened in 2024, carry an open-air onsen of their own looking at the mountain, with a private lounge and their own dining room, and a separate wing of suites has its own open-air bath and dining room.

The onsen

The spring rises from deep below Mount Fuji, a high-alkaline water of pH 10.3. On the roof the open-air onsen steps down in three tiers facing the mountain, the highest made for lying back in; indoors the large onsen also looks to Mount Fuji, with a sauna and a cold pool of the mountain's own groundwater, and tea and candied ginger are served after.

Dining

Dinner is a kaiseki of the Fuji foothills, Koshu wagyu in sukiyaki, eggs from Oshino and abalone grilled at the table among it, served in dining rooms with open kitchens or in a private room; on The Classic Cherry Blossom Tour of Japan and on Definitive Japan both evenings' dinners are at the ryokan, and on the Classic our guests stay in the Sanri Comfort rooms, 48 square metres in the Japanese and Western manner, each with its own open-air bath with Fuji in view and the Club Lounge.

the setting

Lake Kawaguchiko

Fujiyoshida lies on the high ground at the northern foot of Mount Fuji, and the ryokan stands in a Japanese garden of more than 20,000 tsubo, with the Katsura River flowing through it, a tea room, pavilions for sitting, and a terrace for watching the mountain change through the year.

A foot bath waits in the garden, and Lake Kawaguchi is a short drive to the west.
