Essential Japan is the journey for a first visit, or for a return that wants the three cities done properly: three nights in Tokyo, three in Kyoto and two in Osaka, with Nara for a day from Kyoto. The Green Car carries you between the cities, your luggage travels ahead of you, and every evening ends at a hotel chosen for its address: Nihonbashi in Tokyo, Gion in Kyoto, and the castle park in Osaka.
Your Tour Director is with you every day, from the welcome dinner on the first evening to the chauffeur who takes you to the airport on the last, and the days between are arranged around the places below.

Tokyo
Senso-ji and the lanes of Asakusa, Meiji Jingu in its forest, the Imperial Palace East Gardens, Shibuya Crossing as the lights come on, the Tsukiji Outer Market with your Tour Director, eating as you go, and Ginza.
Kyoto
Fushimi Inari, Kinkaku-ji, Kiyomizu-dera and the lanes of Higashiyama, the Arashiyama bamboo grove, Gion as the lanterns are lit, Nishiki Market on foot, and a private tea ceremony.
Nara, from Kyoto
Todai-ji and its Great Buddha, and the deer park.
Osaka
Dotonbori on foot in the evening, Kuromon Market, eating as you go, and Osaka Castle.
What is included
- A private chauffeur at the airport on the day you arrive and on the day you leave.

- Your luggage sent ahead between hotels, so you travel light from city to city.

- Six dinners: the welcome dinner, a sushi counter in Tokyo, an izakaya evening, kaiseki in Kyoto, a sushi counter in Osaka, and a farewell dinner of wagyu teppanyaki.

- Two evenings kept open, with your Tour Director's recommendations arranged on request.
- A private tea ceremony in Kyoto, a sake tasting at Fushimi, a craft studio visit in Asakusa, and market walks with your Tour Director, eating as you go.

The price

Prices are per person.
The price is the same whether you travel alone or two of you share a room, and each journey takes a party of up to four guests in two rooms.
A deposit confirms your dates; the balance is due 95 days before you travel.
Each journey is available across the year, on the dates you choose.

Hiroshima and Miyajima
From Osaka the Green Car reaches Hiroshima in about ninety minutes. Three nights at Hotel Granvia Hiroshima* allow an afternoon at the Peace Memorial Park and Museum, a day on Miyajima for Itsukushima Shrine and its great torii standing in the water, and a morning in Shukkei-en, the garden of the Asano lords. Your Tour Director stays with you to the end, and a private chauffeur takes you to your flight from Hiroshima, or the Green Car returns you to Osaka or Tokyo for it. With the extension, Essential Japan runs to twelve days, and the extension is USD $7,200 per person.
