Luxury Japan Tours

Our six tours of Japan each follow one season: the cherry blossom from the Tokyo palace moat to Osaka, and again across Hokkaido; the lavender summer of Furano and the Shiretoko coast; the maples of Kyoto and the far north. Each is limited to 8 guests and runs on set dates, twin share, at one inclusive price.

To travel privately, The Private Collection offers four ready-made journeys on the dates you choose, and the Custom Tour of Japan is created around your party alone.

By season: Japan cherry blossom tours 2027, Japan summer tours 2027, luxury Hokkaido tours, Japan fall foliage tours 2027 and Japan winter tours. Every journey, filtered by season, region and length: all our journeys. By place: luxury travel to Japan, region by region, luxury Tokyo tours and luxury Kyoto tours. Privately, on your own dates: a private tour of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, a private Japan tour with Mount Fuji, a private Hokkaido tour and private journeys in Japan for two.

Luxury Japan tours: questions answered

What are the best luxury tours of Japan?

A luxury tour of Japan is worth its price when it follows one season from start to finish, names every hotel and ryokan before you book, keeps one team of Tour Directors with the group throughout and is sold at one inclusive price. Each of our tours is built that way. In 2027 they follow the cherry blossom through Honshu and through Hokkaido, the Hokkaido summer, the wild north of Shiretoko, and the autumn colour of northern Japan. The best luxury tours of Japan, and how to choose one (opens in a new tab) sets out the questions to ask of any company.

What do the published tours of Japan cost?

Each published tour runs 11 to 13 days at one inclusive price per person, twin share, set out on the tour's own page: every night in luxury hotels and ryokan, first-class rail, private transfers, your Tour Directors, all breakfasts, and all other meals as detailed in the itinerary. Each journey of The Private Collection carries its price on its own page, and a Custom Tour of Japan is From $3,500 per person, per day. How much a luxury Japan tour costs (opens in a new tab) sets out what each price covers.

Are your Japan tours private or group tours?

Both. A published tour travels as a small group on set dates, twin share, with your Tour Directors. The Private Collection offers four ready-made journeys taken privately by one party on its own dates, with a Tour Director. The Custom Tour of Japan is created around one party alone and can go anywhere in the country. A whole departure of a published tour may also be taken by one party, at the published price per person.

Are your tours small group tours?

Yes. Each published tour is limited to 8 guests, a truly small group tour, so that everyone sits comfortably at one table in a ryokan and fits easily into a private teahouse room for the evening with the geiko and maiko.

What is included in the price?

Every night at the hotels and ryokan named on the tour page, first-class rail, a private vehicle on certain days, a private chauffeur at the airport on arrival and departure, every entrance, your Tour Directors, all breakfasts, and all other meals as detailed in the itinerary. International flights are not included. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance, and we are glad to tell you what it should cover.

How many days do you need for a tour of Japan?

Our published tours run 11 to 13 days, and the journeys of The Private Collection 9 to 13 days. Ten days to two weeks suits a first journey through Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Kyoto and Osaka at an easy pace, and Hokkaido deserves a journey of its own: luxury Hokkaido tours gathers every one we make.

Do you run fall foliage tours of Japan?

Yes. The Autumn Leaves Tour of Northern Japan runs from 26 October to 6 November or from 2 to 13 November 2027, twelve days from the mountains above Sapporo to Ginzan Onsen, and The Autumn Leaves Tour of Japan runs from 23 November to 4 December 2027. Every autumn tour and private journey is on Japan fall foliage tours 2027.

Do you run summer tours of Hokkaido?

Yes, two. The Summer Tour of Hokkaido, twelve days with two departures in 2027, and the Wild North Tour of Hokkaido, from 27 July to 6 August 2027. Both are set side by side on Japan summer tours.

When do the 2027 tours depart?

The Classic Cherry Blossom Tour of Japan, 30 March to 10 April 2027; The Cherry Blossom Tour of Hokkaido, 28 April to 10 May 2027; The Summer Tour of Hokkaido, 25 June to 6 July 2027, or 11 to 22 July 2027; The Wild North Tour of Hokkaido, 27 July to 6 August 2027; The Autumn Leaves Tour of Japan, 23 November to 4 December 2027; The Autumn Leaves Tour of Northern Japan, 26 October to 6 November 2027, or 2 to 13 November 2027. Each runs on its set dates, and the availability calendar shows every open date.

How do we book?

Send us an enquiry, and the full itinerary comes to you. A deposit of $3,500 per person secures your place, and the balance falls due 95 days before departure. If you would like to talk the tour through first, a Tour Director calls you at a time that suits you.
