Azumi Setoda
Azumi Setoda is a ryokan in Setoda, on the island of Ikuchijima in the Seto Inland Sea, made in the estate a family of salt producers and shipping merchants built in 1876, its rooms in the sukiya manner, each with a bath of hinoki cypress.

the room
The rooms
The rooms are in the sukiya style, in natural materials, with floors of Fukumitsu stone. The garden rooms open through yukimi shoji onto a small garden; some rooms carry a balcony to the breeze; and the two-floor rooms, of 70 square metres, add a tatami room with a sunken table and a balcony with a daybed. Every room has a bath of hinoki cypress.

The bath
The baths are in the rooms, each of hinoki cypress, the scent of the wood rising with the warmth. Across the street the ryokan's public bathhouse, open to the town, adds a large bath and a sauna, and staying guests are welcome there.
the table
Dining
Dinner is a course of Setouchi: fish of the Inland Sea, vegetables grown on the islands and their citrus, made with producers of the region and drawing on no single tradition, as the port once drew on the cultures its ships carried. It is served in the old estate, on tableware kept in the family for a hundred and fifty years.
the setting
Onomichi
Setoda lies at the midpoint of the Shimanami Kaido, the chain of bridges across the islands of the Inland Sea between Hiroshima and Ehime, and it has long been a port of call. The ryokan stands on the old market street that runs from the port to the temple of Kosan-ji, on an island known for its lemons.
The old market street of Setoda leads from the door to the temple of Kosan-ji, with the port close by and the lemon groves of Ikuchijima on the hills behind.
