Golf with Mount Fuji views
Mount Fuji stands over the fairways of its northern foot, and a round there is played in the mountain's company.
Around the Fuji Five Lakes in Yamanashi, the golf courses lie on the lower slopes of the mountain, between 1,000 and 1,200 metres above the sea. The altitude keeps a summer round cool, and the mountain above the course changes with the year: cherry blossom in spring, autumn colour on the slopes, and snow on the summit through the colder months.
the courses
On the foot of the mountain
Each course beneath the mountain has its own character. One, on a plateau at 1,200 metres, is laid out on the theme of Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, the woodblock prints that carried the mountain's image around the world. At another, the custom is to walk the round with a caddie, and the mountain turns slowly from one side of the course to the other as you play.
The course is chosen for you, for its view of the mountain, for the season of your journey and for the way you like to play, so that the day is shaped around the golf and the golf around the view.
the day
A day of golf at Mount Fuji
The car leaves Tokyo after an early breakfast and climbs toward the lakes. The front nine is played in the cool of the morning, lunch is taken at the turn in the clubhouse, and the back nine ends in the afternoon light. After the clubhouse bath, the evening belongs to a ryokan by the lake, its onsen and a kaiseki dinner served in your room.
The next day can go wherever the journey goes: to Hakone and its open-air museum, around the five lakes by private car, or on to Kyoto by shinkansen, with your clubs already sent ahead.
where you stay
Where you stay at the mountain
You stay in the finest luxury hotels and ryokan in Japan, each one chosen personally by us for its luxury, its comfort and its setting.
Around Mount Fuji, that can mean a room above Lake Kawaguchi with the mountain across the water, or a ryokan suite with its own onsen, where the day of golf ends in the quiet of the evening.

questions
Golf at Mount Fuji, answered
Can you see Mount Fuji from golf courses?
Yes. The courses on the mountain's northern foot, around the Fuji Five Lakes, are laid out with Mount Fuji above them, and one takes the whole theme of its course from Hokusai's views of the mountain. Like every view of Mount Fuji, it is clearest on a bright, dry day.
When can you play golf near Mount Fuji?
Golf is played on the mountain's northern foot from spring into autumn, and at 1,000 metres and more above the sea, a summer round there is far cooler than one in Tokyo.
Can golf at Mount Fuji be part of a longer tour of Japan?
Yes. Every Custom Tour of Japan is private and created around your party, so a day of golf beneath Mount Fuji sits between Tokyo and Kyoto, or begins a stay at the lakes, wherever it suits the journey.
What is a Tour Director?
The most sought-after doors in Japan, and its most exclusive places, open only from within. Your Tour Director opens them: one of our own, fluent in English and Japanese. They enhance every day, turning a beautiful journey into a deep and authentic experience of Japan.
